Today, March 31, is the World Day Against Colon Cancer.

Colorectal cancer is currently the most frequented cancer in Spain in societ. If we make a distinction by gender, lung cancer is the most common among men, while in women it is breast cancer.

The cause of most colorectal cancer is not yet known. What is known is that there are several factors that increase the risk of developing colorectal cancer. Some of these risk factors are age, more frequent after the age of 50; smoking, drinking alcohol; being a sedentary person; eating a low-fiber, rich-in-fats and processed- food diet; obesity, a family history of colon cancer and familial adenomatous polyposis.

To prevent colon cancer or make an early diagnosis of it, from the age of 50, early detection tests should be carried out. As with many other diseases, it is up to us to try to prevent it by making changes in our lifestyle: eating a diet rich in fiber and low in fat, exercising, quitting smoking and having a healthy weight are some of the keys they recommend The experts.

Let’s join forces to fight to prevent a common enemy!
